Trash Talk – 119
Odd Future Records
October 9, 2012
What It Sounds Like: Hardcore Punk.
You know what this type of music consists of?
It takes the elements of…
Punk: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals. Short song times. Energy and Speed. More clean or distorted instrumentation depends on the band.
Hardcore: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals. Screams and Breakdowns. Doesn’t always have to be fast. Overall, simply heavy – sometimes more melodic, and sometimes not.
Mash the two together, and you get what is deemed to be hardcore punk.
The boys in Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All decided that after they started their own record label, a type of band that plays this type of music would be the best choice in their first signing.
They were wrong. Not in choice of style, but in choice of this band.
Because Trash Talk takes us on a twenty-one minute ride through fourteen songs that sound exactly the same. The same tones. The same screams. The same everything. It’s not worth trying to dissect, because there’s nothing further to figure out.
It’s punk.
It’s hardcore.
It’s kind of listenable.
And that’s the end of the story.
…at least it’s only twenty-one minutes long.
3/10
If you had to listen to two tracks: Take your pick.
It sounds a big like a boring version of OFF! . Still, it’s cool for OFWGKTA to spread out on their label. Excellent call.
