Metz – Metz
Sub Pop
October 9, 2012
I went ahead and judged the book by its cover; I knew what this was going to sound like before I even put this disc in the player. The album artwork is all black and white, with a big white “METZ” written across the front in all-caps, boldface type. The cover just shows a kid with his head down on a pile of books and binders. I flipped to the back of the record to look at the song titles: Headache, Sad Pricks, Nausea, Wasted, Negative Space. Finally, the label…SubPop. Noisy, energetic, 3-piece rock and roll was what I was expecting, and noisy, energetic, 3-piece rock and roll was what I got.
Does it break any new ground?
Nope.
Are the choruses catchy?
Not really.
Is it exactly what you need sometimes when you don‘t wanna sing along and you just wanna hear something in-your-face?
Abso-freaking-lutely.
6/10
If you had to listen to two tracks: Sad Pricks / Headache
